What is the difference between a platform body and a stake body?

Compares open platform bodies with stake bodies, focusing on loading access, removable sides, cargo containment, and common applications.

Stake & Platform Bodies Updated

A platform body provides an open flat cargo deck without permanently installed sidewalls, while a stake body adds removable stakes and side panels that help contain cargo during transport.

The primary advantage of a platform body is unrestricted access. Equipment, machinery, construction materials, and oversized freight can be loaded from any direction using forklifts or cranes.

Stake bodies provide many of the same loading advantages while offering additional cargo security for products that could shift or fall during transportation. Because the side panels are removable on many models, operators can adapt the vehicle to different jobs throughout the workday.

Businesses that regularly transport loose materials, nursery products, or palletized goods often benefit from stake sides, while companies hauling oversized equipment may prefer the completely open design of a traditional platform body.

Selecting between the two depends primarily on cargo characteristics rather than industry alone.
